RIT Environmental Science Student Research

Environmental Science students from Rochester Institute of Technology conducted field research across two of WM’s certified wildlife habitat sites, High Acres and Mill Seat Landfill, contributing to research around the role managed lands play in supporting conservation outcomes.

TJU Textile Recycling Capstone Project

In 2025, WM team members supported Thomas Jefferson University’s Capstone program, helping to connect student proposals to textiles recovery and sorting solutions aligned with needs from WM’s South Carolina facility.

King George Family YMCA + Boys and Girls Club Summer Programs

WM’s King George County Landfill team partnered with the local YMCA’s Summer Reading Scholars Program and the local Boys & Girls Club to educate more than 275 K-10 students through a variety of eco-actions tied to wildlife habitat and recycling programming.

Hands-On Environmental Education with GARAF

WM announced a 10-year agreement granting a Wildlife Research and Management Assistance group dedicated use of a learning facility on WM’s Saint-Nicéphore property, where thousands of Drummondville students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on sustainability-related practices.

Pecan Grove Microhabitat Planting Program

On October 29th, 2025, WM Gulf Coast welcomed 60 fifth grade students from DeLisle Elementary school to plant 724 native trees, grasses, and shrubs at Pecan Grove Landfill.
